Context

01

A season managed on a phone, badly

Competitive dance families coordinate an extraordinary amount: rehearsal changes, travel, entry fees, costume costs, and a child's own goals. Almost all of it arrived through group messages and screenshots.

The cost was not only administrative. Important information was easy to miss, and the season felt heavier than the activity itself deserved.

Approach

02

The season as the organising object

Rather than building four disconnected modules, we made the season the spine of the product. Schedules, events, expenses, and goals all attach to it, which is how a parent actually thinks about the year.

That single decision removed most of the navigation. There is very little to learn, because the structure matches the mental model already in use.

Craft

03

Warm, quick, and legible in a hallway

The interface is designed for the least convenient moment: one hand, poor light, thirty seconds between rehearsals. Large type, high contrast, and a single primary action per screen.

Expenses were the quiet unlock. Capturing a cost in seconds turned a dreaded end-of-season reconciliation into something that simply stayed current.

In practice

We designed for one hand, poor light, and thirty spare seconds. Everything else followed from that.
